El Mayor Anejo

From Tequila Gringo: 89 pts
Another great one from the good folks at El Mayor. We served this to some friends of ours and they all were shocked that tequila could be so good. In fact, two emailed me the next day to get the name again because they wanted to buy some. We picked up caramel (and we love when we pick up caramel) a medium heat and a delicious richness. This 100% agave tequila is aged for up to 3 years in white oak barrels.

From El Mayor:
100% Agave Tequila El Mayor Anejo is 100% agave tequila made at the Gonalez family-owned distillery under the watchful eye of tequila master Rodolfo Gonzalez. In Spanish, El Mayor means the greatest and as such, the El Mayor Anejo is an ultra premium tequila crafted for slow sipping. The El Mayor portfolio also includes El Mayor Reposado and El Mayor Blanco, offering a taste for every connoisseur of fine spirits. El Mayor Anejo begins with the Blue Tequilana Weber agave grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, where natural conditions produce a larger, sweeter heart that yields the unique characteristics demanded of El Mayor tequila. It is double-distilled under time-honored, traditional methods enhanced by the technology in the state-of-the-art Gonzalez factory, a combination resulting in the highest quality, premium tequila. Prior to bottling at 80 proof in 750 mL bottles, the tequila undergoes a personal tasting by Rodolfo Gonzalez. Every bottle is unique as each is hand labeled, numbered and signed with Rodolfo’s approval. Characteristics Aged for up to three years El Mayor Anejo has a rich golden amber color. It has an aroma of caramel, sweet fruit and light oak. The taste starts with a smooth entry that leads to a soft, medium-to-full body with caramel, grilled tropical fruits and brown spices. El Mayor Anejo has a long and rich finish that supports the body with a lightly sweet agave fruit
